What is Couples Counselling?

Couples counselling is a type of psychotherapy that helps couples of all types to recognize and resolve conflicts while strengthening the relationship.

When is it time to consider Couples Counselling?

Counselling can be an important part of any relationship, at any time throughout that relationship. It is not uncommon for one or both partners in a relationship to feel unhappy or that their needs are not being met. Often times, couples wait until a “crisis” occurs (such as infideility, impending separation or bankrupcy) to seek counselling. By this point, the “crisis” becomes the main topic of therapy, while the underlying issues are often ignored. Although couples are definitely encouraged to seek counselling in these situations, it can be beneficial for couples to seek counselling long before the relationship enters crisis mode.

What types of issues can Couples Counselling resolve?

Couples counselling can provide a safe space for couples to discuss a variety of concerns, including but not limited to infidelity, sex, communication, money, or major life changes such as getting married or starting a family. Couples counselling can also be beneficial if one partner is coping with an issue that might impact the relationship, such as depression or unemployment.
